What is the Role of Your Car's Alternator?

The alternator and the battery in your vehicle are intimately connected. The electronics in your car or truck are actually powered by the alternator, not the battery, as it creates the electricity needed to run those systems. When your vehicle is running, it turns the crank which runs the alternator, which in turn, powers the battery. Because the alternator and battery are so intimately connected, it's often difficult to tell which one may be causing a problem.

Warning lights such as "GEN" or "ALT" that become illuminated are clear indicators that one of those components need attention. More often, however, the problem is more subtle, such as windows that operate erratically or an engine that stops for no reason and then starts up again.

Avoid sudden issues with your vehicle by bringing it into our Baytown service department. Our certified technicians will examine the battery and the alternator to find the problems.
